A Probabilistic Model for Total Cost of Purchasing

چکیده
Following to the publication in 1937 of the famous paper by Ronald Coase, who in 1991 won the Nobel Prize in Economics for the introduction of transaction costs, numerous contributions appeared in the related literature. Nowadays transaction costs are universally accepted, but researchers in the field agree on the difficulty in measuring and quantifying them. Motivated by such a research gap, this paper presents a model for the buyer/seller transaction based on probabilistic reasoning. In this contribution the additional costs of purchasing, that are a part of transaction costs, are divided into ex ante (drafting and negotiating agreements) and ex post (monitoring and enforcing agreements) costs. The model is tested in a simulation environment for the supply of a customized product and the obtained results are compared with the actual data of the purchasing, confirming the model suitability. Hence, the model is able to evaluate the total cost of purchasing before the transaction takes place and may be employed by the buyer to forecast the cost of a purchase and take decisions accordingly. A case study in the field of the construction industry shows the effectiveness of the proposed model by validating its results with experimental data.

Economic Analysis of Implementing Respirator Program or Ventilation System in a Manufacturing Environment
The techniques and methods of developing cost models for respirators are discussed. Models are developed and implemented in this study for nineteen types of respirators in two major classes (air-purifying and supplied-air) and one LEV system. One respirator model is selected for detailed discussion from among the twenty models. The technical cost method is used in constructing the cost models f...
متن کاملA Multi-objective Mathematical Model for Sustainable Supplier Selection and Order Lot-Sizing under Inflation
Recently, scholars and practitioners have shown an increased interest in the field of sustainable supplier selection and order lot-sizing. While several studies have recently carried out on this field, far too little attention has been given to formulating a multi-objective model for the integrated problem of multi-period multi-product order lot-sizing and sustainable supplier selection under i...

This work applies fuzzy sets to the integration of purchasing, manufacturing and assembling of production planning decisions with multiple suppliers, multiple components and multiple machines in remanufacturing systems. The developed fuzzy multi-objective linear programming model (FMOLP) simultaneously minimizes total costs, total $text{CO}_2$ emissions and total lead time with reference to cus...
متن کاملPurchasing Inventory Models for Deteriorating Items with Linear Demand and Shortages - in Third Order Equation
In this paper, an purchasing inventory model for deteriorating items is developed with a linear, positive trend in demand, allowing inventory shortages and backlogging. It is assumed that the goods in the inventory deteriorate over time at a constant rate . Two models are developed for two operational policies. The first policy covers the case that the inventory model with linear demand for det...
متن کاملEconomic order quantity model for growing items with incremental quantity discounts
Certain inventory items are living organisms, for example livestock, and are therefore capable of growing during the replenishment cycle. These items often serve as various saleable food items downstream in supply chains. The purpose of this paper is to develop a lot sizing model for growing items if the supplier of the items offers incremental quantity discounts. A mathematical model is derive...
